Nokia and du introduce Asha 311 with free Facebook

Nokia yesterday announced the availability of budget smartphone, the Asha 311 and has teamed up with du to deliver a packaged Pay As You Go SIM card, along with six months free Facebook access.

The package also includes credit worth AED 25, of which AED 15 can be used for international calls, and AED 10 can be applied to any type of usage.

"Without a doubt, Facebook has become an important medium for consumers to communicate with one another," said Vithesh Reddy, general manager, Nokia Lower Gulf.

"Providing six months of free Facebook is in line with our global strategy of connecting the next billion consumers to the Internet. Nokia has been working closely with du to ensure that customers are getting real value from the exclusive packages on offer. Designed to provide an incredibly rich and affordable smartphone experience, the Nokia Asha 311 enables consumers to be connected on-the go and also be set free from excessive data consumption costs."

"The Nokia Asha 311 is the perfect complement to our value-added Pay as you Go offering, and is ideal for our data-conscious customers," said Farid Faraidooni, Chief Commercial Officer, du.

"We are proud to have partnered with Nokia for the Nokia Asha 311 in the UAE, to provide our customers with the products and benefits that will make a positive difference to their communications."

The new Asha 311 integrates the Nokia Browser 2.0, a recent update designed to use Nokia's cloud technology to reduce data consumption by up to 90%, allowing faster and cheaper internet access, according to Nokia.

The smartphone will be available in package form for AED439.

The Asha 311 incorporates a 3.5G capacitive touch screen device, powered by a 1 GHz processor. Nokia claims websites load up to three times faster in comparison with devices without cloud-accelerated browsing.

Nokia also announced some 10,000 apps will be available for download. All users will receive an exclusive gift of 40 EA games to download for free including titles such as ?Tetris', ?Bejeweled', ?Need for Speed: The Run' and ?FIFA 2012'.

The Asha 311 also features a 3.2MP camera and pre-installed Nokia Maps, in addition to the 15-level pre-bundled version of ?Angry Birds'.
