The Leica deluge continues here at Photokina in Cologne. We played around with two new point-and-shoots from the company, starting with the D-Lux 6, the larger and pricier of the pair. The camera features an all black body, with a red Leica logo on the front. It's got a 1.7-inch CMOS image sensor, a processor capable of ISO 80 to 12800 and adjustable aperture on the lens that can be changed with a twist. It's also got a large three-inch display on the rear and is capable of full HD video.

The cheaper V-Lux 40 features a similar all-black build with red logo in a smaller form, with a 1/2.33-inch CMOS sensor. On the rear of the camera, you'll find a three-inch touch display with the same bright resolution as the D-Lux 6. The camera, which bears a striking resemblance to the Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS20, can also do 1080p video. The V-Lux is available now here in Europe for €590 and the D-Lux is coming soon, priced at €699.

Healing Relationships: Should I Tell My Wife about Past Affairs

A full understanding of the psychological and spiritual import of this question requires great wisdom to provide and to receive.

I have written some excellent books on the subject of marriage and relationships, and have written and lectured extensively on fatherhood, the duties of a husband, and the profundities of marriage for over 22 years.

There are reasons why a man must have honor, fidelity, and do his duty. But I'm not telling you anything new. The fact that a man must be honorable, patient, kind, and virtuous--you already knew this in your heart, didn't you? If you are not honorable, it is because you are selfish or have a lot of growing up to do.

Of course we all start off our relationship selfish. But we all should also grow up. And growing up means learning to be unselfish. In fact, I have always said that marriage is not a pleasure party. The purpose of marriage is to have children and a family. We can be selfish before we get married, but once married we begin to see our weaknesses and selfishness that we did not know we had before being within the walls of marriage.

Holy matrimony is a framework within which to learn to be unselfish.

Perhaps now you can see why it is best to wait until marriage. Marriage is a sign of fidelity and honor. Should you, as the man, give in to the temptation of the popular culture or the lady in question, to not wait until marriage, in her eyes it shows that you are easy to tempt and that you do not have impeccable honor.

If she is like many other women, she may have been taken advantage of by other men and has not been loved properly. She already judges men, and now she will judge you too as being just like all the rest.

Later on in the relationship, you will find that she does not respect you, may have contempt for you, does not trust you, and you will have hell to pay. I am not saying that things can't be worked out, but it may take 20 or 30 years for her to learn to respect you, and this only if you truly change for the better. Sadly many men remain selfish and unaware, and do not know why their weakness harms their family.

You see, a man's authority is goodness, patience, understanding, the courage of conviction, and the respect of others for his virtue. If you are weak or violent, if you worship women more than God, or if you put your wife on a pedestal, your family will have contempt for you and will end up in rebellion.

When you are weak or wrong, and when you do not uphold virtue and principle, you have no authority. No wonder you are held in contempt and your family is in rebellion.

Anger and violence are wrong and also show moral weakness. Some men use violence to try to get back their authority, but violence is wrong and shows moral weakness. They will hate you.

In regard to your question, here I will just give part of the short answer.

If you just cheated on your wife, there is a very powerful reason for telling her: Basic decency and disease prevention.

There are many sexually transmitted diseases and they are rampant. Any contact outside of the bounds of marital fidelity carries the risk of contracting and spreading one or more of the many STD's.

You owe it to her to advise her so that she can monitor her health and partner with her medical provider to make sure that she is free from disease (or receive appropriate treatment, if through you, she has acquired a disease).

Just be aware of the fact that she may decide to divorce you.

If you cheated on her many years ago, and you are both disease free, then there are other factors involved. I will address this these other factors in another blog or book, or in private consultation.

Here I will just give a couple of preliminary thoughts. If you cheated on her long ago, whether to tell her or not depends, in part, on your reason for telling her. You must be thoroughly versed in the psychology of it and be prepared to do what is right, but also factor in what makes sense and is reasonable, rather than just emotionally saying things that might be misunderstood or forever after used against you.

I am a pastor, so my advice to individual people who consult with me about this topic may surprise some. I say "It all depends" because some men, instead of confessing and making things right in their heart before their Creator, get on their knees before their wife, which is akin to begging her (instead of God) for forgiveness.

His display of wrongness and weakness is a tremendous temptation to her to puff up in judgment, and also to feel superior and righteous by comparison.

If she is judgmental of men, based on experience with men beginning with her father who was not there for her and then other weak men she has known, your confession will only confirm what she already suspected--that you are just another weak selfish man who is a user--and she may judge you forever.

If you have changed for the better over the years--you saw your selfishness and you saw that your wife and children need you to be there for them--and now you have mended your ways, a weak admission of some long ago dalliance will serve no purpose other than tempt her to judge you and never be able to forget what you told her. She might "forgive you" for guilt relief, but secretly resent you for making her having to deal with it.

I am not saying not to be honest, but I am also warning you that what you say to her can and will be used against you. Women tend to have a memory a mile long when it comes to a man's mistakes.

So first, look at your motivation, become very well centered, and have a crystal clear understanding of what a man's, husband's and father's role is before you dump your sins in her lap.

Whether it just happened or happened a long time ago, it would undoubtedly be wise to read my paperback book The Myths and Mysteries of Marriage - Making Relationships Work. You need a thorough grounding about what is at stake and just what the duties of the husband and father are.

If perchance you are interested in becoming a better husband and father, you probably need some good fatherly advice--the kind you would get from a wise father who also loves and respects women and who knows what their true needs are. You are unlikely to find such understanding in the popular culture. My book might help

Does having sex too early in a relationship cause it to fail?

By Lesley Lanir.

New York - Is it advisable to enter into sexual intimacy hastily if you want a long-lasting, quality relationship? Does living together lead to successful marriages? A Cornell University study on the effects of early sexual activity on the future of the relationship has been published recently in the Journal of Marriage and Family. The researchers of the article "The Tempo of Sexual Activity and Later Relationship Quality" reviewed data from nearly 600 married and cohabiting couples and found that rapid sexual involvement together with cohabitation affect the quality of long-term relationships. I contacted the lead author of the article, Professor Sharon Sassler of the Department of Policy Analysis & Management at Cornell University, New York about the findings. What was the aim of the review?
The aim of this study was to find out whether the speed of entry into sexual relationships among couples is associated with relationship quality since previous studies have suggested this. Untitled

After reading the results of earlier research, we assumed that rapid sexual involvement would affect the matching process and relationship quality, especially if sexual dependencies replaced emotional compatibility as a primary basis for cohabitation and marriage.
What were the overall findings of your research?
Overall, our empirical results suggest that couples moved rapidly into sexual relationships and more than one third reported having sex within 1 month of the start of their relationships.
What are women?s views on the speed of entry into sexual activity?
We found that for women the speed of entry into sexual relationships was negatively associated with marital quality and that slowing things down may improve women?s views of overall relationship quality, particularly if commitment and intimacy are also improved. We also found that early sexual activity, may have greater symbolic value as an indicator of relationship commitment for women, regardless of whether the relationship is ??right?? for them - implied by the fact that women may be more sensitive to the quality of their relationship than men are.
What about men?
From the men?s perspective, the speed of entry into sexual activity was largely unrelated to the quality of the relationship.
So you are saying that men basically don't really care when the sex happens, as long as it happens?
Yes, I suppose you could put it like that :)
So does early sexual activity in relationships eventually lead to poor quality marriages?
The association between relationship tempo and relationship quality is largely driven by entry into cohabitation. That is, early sexual activity was linked to subsequent cohabitation and less satisfying marriages.
So early sexual engagement has a less detrimental effect on marriage than cohabitation?
The research review found that it's not necessarily the tempo to sexual involvement, per se, but yes, the rapid movement into shared living, which mediates the effect of rapid sex on most measures.

So does this research suggest that there should be no sex or cohabitation before marriage?
No, that is not what the research wishes to suggest at all since the vast majority of young American adults do have sex or cohabit. This is a review of previous research about how long studies have said Americans wait to have sex. We haven?t found much evidence that entry into sexual relations has sped up in recent years - but other factors (such as cohabitation) have.
So is the main question of your research the effects of cohabitation on long term relationships?
Yes, we are trying to situate our research in the body of work that is exploring what effect cohabitation may have on marriage. We're not promoting abstinence or virginity pledges - just looking at potential contributing factors to stronger or weaker relationship quality. Yes.
What does research say about cohabitation?
Much of my research of late has focused on cohabitation, and we really do not know that much about how rapidly couples end up moving in together, or if that is occurring more rapidly than it used to in the past, as cohabitation becomes more normative. But relationships may be harder to get out of once couples are living together -- and many couples, especially those from less advantaged backgrounds (less education, jobs that pay less, from disrupted families who may not have the resources to subsidize their children's independent living) seem to move in with new romantic/sexual partners quite quickly. It could be that deciding to live together quickly doesn't leave couples enough time to figure out if they are on the same page regarding values, goals, the future. In my qualitative interviews, respondents who are cohabiting seem to confirm this by telling me that they have often not discussed the future before moving in, because it is just "too soon to do that."
So from the research can you assume that once couples are living together they may feel obliged to take the next step and get married?
No. The empirical evidence indicates that the duration of cohabiting unions is increasing, and the proportion of those that cohabit that go on to marry that partner has also declined over time.
Untitled

image:99361:1::0

That is interesting ? living together may be making couples rethink?
Yes, it seems that it is time to reassess the belief that cohabitation is a "stepping stone" to marriage. While some couples may feel pressure -- whether from their own internal clocks or parental pressure - to wed if they are living together, many also express the strong desire to have various things in place before they do so - completed education, a stable job or career, money saved in the bank.
Concerns with "readiness" can therefore enable couples to delay tying the knot, particularly as the prerogative of proposals still remains largely a male responsibility.
So it isn?t the case of couples feeling obliged to get married because of cohabitation?
Some research, by Scott Stanley and colleagues, has suggested that cohabiting couples may "slide" into marriage and that men who do so are less dedicated and committed to their partners. But as the role of cohabitation changes, and fewer proceed into marriage, social pressure to get married may also decline.
My qualitative research suggests that men and women who are wary of marriage have ways to avoid taking that step. For the men, they can put off asking; for the women, expressing ambivalence about marriage is a key way to avoid forcing the issue, since men are not inclined to ask a woman they are not sure will say yes to their proposal.

Moneycation: A Layman's Guide to Home Equity Loans

Outlining the clear benefits and risks for property investment beginners

By Heather Sanchez

Home equity loans are secured loans that require your home be put up as the collateral security. As a person who?s been involved in real estate investing for many years, I?ve used them to personally finance the renovations in order to flip and sell a property, as well as to secure a home equity loan on one property in order to finance the purchase of another property.

There are a many benefits to home equity loans over other loans, for instance:

?there is little risk to both as long as you can pay the monthly loan amount, and lenders feel secure because your home asset is the collateral

  • For this reason lenders are more flexible about the terms and conditions because of the loan?s secure nature
  • The home owners can utilize the home equity loan for any purpose they want?for example, to pay off personal debt, debt consolidation, home renovations, and even to pay medical bills
  • The monthly repayment on a home equity loan tends to be cheaper
  • Credit score aren?t as highly considered for the securing a home equity loan due to the fact that the security of your home is the risk

  • Most home equity loans are quick to process?approximately 5 business days to secure. The way a home equity loan is structured is also advantageous compared to other loans. Due to the fact that these are fixed loans, the repayment period tends to be longer (i.e., 10 years to 30?depending on the loan amount), and most lenders will offer the maximum amount due to the fact that they can garner more profit from it. You will be granted a home equity loan based on your current mortgage, meaning the loan amount is based on both the volume of the equity you owe in the home (or the outstanding in the mortgage) as well as the current market value of your home. Usually an assessment of your home is necessary in the loan approval stages.?

To secure a home equity loan with a lender

    • Fill out a home equity loan application with your bank or financial institution
    • You must provide proof of home ownership?via a title search
    • As well as the current equity in the home (this is often done with a drive by assessment) as well as based on the type of home you own?obviously a single-family home would garner a larger loan amount than say a condominium or modular home
    • You must provide proof of employment via pay-stubs or a letter of employment from your current employer, the last years of income tax statements can also be used as testimony
    • All of this information is used to judge your debt to income ratio (or your ability to pay back the loan).

The risk of a home equity loan

For the home owner, the obvious risk to an equity loan is your ability to make the repayments each month, on time. If you fail to do so, the bank will repossess your home.

MARIKANA, South Africa (AP) ? As South Africa's bloody and bitter mining strike dragged on its fifth week, London-registered Lonmin PLC announced Monday it is halting construction of a new shaft, putting 1,200 people out of work.

The strikes that have stopped work at seven gold and platinum mines have spread to the chrome sector, according to the official South African Press Association.

Meanwhile, police blocked rabblerousing politician Julius Malema from addressing some 3,000 strikers gathered at a stadium at the Lonmin mine at Marikana, northwest of Johannesburg.

"Arrest him!" one officer ordered, giving Malema 20 minutes to leave or face arrest. This caused Malema to take off with his entourage.

"I'm leaving. We're getting out of here. Why are you chasing me? Are you going to shoot me?" Malema taunted.

Police on Aug. 16 shot 112 striking Lonmin miners, killing 34, in the worst state violence seen in South Africa since apartheid ended in 1994.

Malema sprinted to his all-terrain vehicle and sped off. Police piled into two armored cars and two other police vehicles and followed Malema at high speed on muddy dirt tracks that wind their way through the tin-shack ghetto with no water or electricity that is home to thousands of Lonmin's miners. The police vehicles and a helicopter hovering above the politician's car literally drove Malema out of town, making sure that he got onto a two-lane highway without speaking to any crowds. Police did not say on what grounds they blocked Malema or threatened him with arrest.

Malema, who was expelled from the ruling African National Congress in April for "sowing disunity," has called for a nationwide mining strike, feeding on the anger of miners to boost his campaign to oust South African President Jacob Zuma as leader of the ANC.

Armed soldiers for the first time joined police in armored cars standing guard at Lonmin earlier Monday. A truck-mounted water cannon stood by as a helicopter flew overhead.

Church and opposition leaders condemned the state security for its heavy-handed action against the strikers, saying it mirrors the force used years ago by the white minority apartheid regime. The opposition Congress of the People party demanded the withdrawal of some 1,000 soldiers trucked over the weekend into the "platinum belt" 100 kilometers (60 miles) northwest of Johannesburg.

In Johannesburg, President Jacob Zuma called for a speedy resolution to the mining strikes. He said the strikes have cost South Africa close to 4.5 billion rand (nearly $563 million) in lost gold and platinum production this year.

Zuma told a conference of the Congress of South African Trade Unions that this year's work stoppages have subtracted nearly 3.1 billion rand ($388 million) from the national treasury.

He blamed poor living and working conditions of miners on the apartheid past and the failures of mining companies to honor a charter to improve the lives of miners.

Zuma said mining companies are required to improve the housing and living conditions of workers and also to invest in skills development, racial equity in employment and ownership as well as local community development. He said violence cannot become a culture of South African labor relations.

Union rivalries and demands for better pay have stopped work at one gold and seven platinum mines. Aquarius Platinum said work resumed at its mine Monday, and Anglo American Platinum said it would restart operations Tuesday at its four mines under police security.

A strike leader said some miners at Samancor Chrome stopped work Friday demanding a minimum take-home pay of 12,500 rand ($1,560), according to SAPA.

It is unclear how many miners are on strike in the different stoppages. Mining companies claim it is a minority with tens of thousands of workers not reporting for duty because of violent threats and intimidation. Previous marches by strikers brandishing machetes, spears and clubs have numbered several thousand.

Lonmin said negotiations would continue Monday after strikers last week rejected an offer of 16 to 21 percent pay increases that fell far short of the demands of striking rock drill operators for a minimum monthly take-home pay of R12,500 ($1,560).

The chief economist of the Chamber of Mines, Roger Baxter, on Monday told Talk Radio 702 that the average rock drill operator earns an average monthly total before deductions of 11,689 rands ($1,460) which he said put those workers in the top 20 percent of all earners in South Africa. For comparison, Baxter noted that semi-skilled steel and industry workers earn a monthly total of 4,000 to 5,000 rands ($500 to $625). Deductions often account for half a workers' salary.

On Saturday, police fired rubber bullets and tear gas at a shantytown neighboring Lonmin mine, where officers killed 34 miners on Aug. 16 in attacks that shocked the nation of 48 million. The weekend crackdown was condemned by the head of the South African Council of Churches.

"Government must be crazy believing that what to me resembles an apartheid-era crackdown can succeed," said Anglican Bishop Jo Seoka, the council president. "We must not forget that such crackdowns in the past led to more resistance and government can ill afford to be seen as the enemy of the people that put them in power."

Get Fit, Get Healthy! These Ideas Show You How

It?s hard to know where to start to become fit. This article can provide helpful tricks and tips to avoid discouraging feelings when starting fitness. If you want to be successful, implement the tips found here to maximize your fitness and its health benefits.

Spend time with the people who show support. Try to get your friends involved in fitness alongside you, or use this opportunity to make new friends who already enjoy being fit. Having someone else at your side will keep you going when you want to give up, and can be a source of support. It is best to seek out people who have goals similar to yours so you push each other to maximum achievement.

You can exercise as you clean. It doesn?t take much effort to integrate a few lunges or squats into a daily break. Try busting out 10 push ups when you are down there, as well. Every little bit will add up to big changes in your body.

If you are going for a toned look, incorporate barbell free weight squats into your workout routine. Squats are the king of all exercises and in addition to building up your quads, hamstrings, calves, abs and lower back, they cause a temporary increase in growth hormone that will help you gain total body mass.

Do exercises you don?t like and feel accomplished that you conquered them. This is because people generally avoid exercises that are difficult for them. Keep practicing and adding to your routine, and it will soon make you less resistant.

Walking in proper form can help protect you from injury. You need to draw your shoulders back and keep your back straight. Let your elbows hold a comfortable 90-degree angle. Swing your arms in opposition to your forward foot. Make contact with the ground first with the heel, and then roll your foot onto the ground.

Are you having problems with chin-ups? You can reorient the way you view chin-ups. Imagine pulling down instead of pulling up while you are doing your chin-ups. It?s still going to take plenty of practice and exercise to be able to do them comfortably, but changing your mental approach will certainly help as well.

Begin your workout on an empty stomach. Exercising on a full stomach can make you sluggish and queasy. If you eat too soon, it will cause you to become sick. It?s better to eat a bit and drink some water after your workout, not before.

Running is great for aerobic fitness but is high impact and can cause damage to your knees. If you notice problems with your knees, try splitting your running time between running and an elliptical trainer or stair climbing machine. Running less for this amount of time rejuvenates your body and avoids permanent damage.

To make good health and fitness a part of your life, you must find a workout routine that you will be able to stick with for the long-term. Though it?s important to set realistic exercise goals, it?s even more important to make your fitness one of life?s priorities.
